Bharat Ratna Award Winners List in India from 1954 till Date. : The Bharat Ratna is the highest civilian award of the Republic of India. Instituted in 1954, the award is conferred “in recognition of exceptional service/performance of the highest order”, without distinction of race, occupation, position, or sex.
Some Important Notes about Bharat Ratna Awards
  • First awarded was given to Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, Sir C.V. Raman, and Chakravarti Rajagopalachari in the year of 1954.
  • Last Bharat Ratna was awarded to Atal Bihari Vajpayee & Madan Mohan Malaviya in the year of 2014.
  • Mother Teresa was the first naturalized Indian citizen of Bharat Ratna Award Winner in 1980.
  • Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan (1987) The first overseas – Pakisthan and Second And Nelson Mandela (1990) are two non Indians of Bharat Ratna Award Winners.
  • Sachin Tendulkar is the first sportsperson and the youngest Bharat Ratna Award Winner in 2014.
